Gay Flag of South Africa

JUST FOR US!

As a gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered citizen of South Africa, YOU make our RAINBOW NATION sparkle. Which is why this flag is in your honour!

The GLBT flag serves dual purposes:

- to celebrate and maintain the liberties and the right to marry under the South African constitution.

- to address immediate and pertinent issues facing the South African GLBT community such as workplace discrimination, “corrective rape” and the myth of the “un-Africanness” of homosexuality.

Ndumie - Our Hero!

To make things even better you are assured that every item you buy will generate revenue for a GLBT cause. Our featured charity is Luleki Sizwe, run by Ndumie Funda who is heroically working to provide shelter, assistance and education whilst combatting corrective rape at a judicial level. Her work has succeeded in the government comissioning a collaborative task team with the LGBTIQ community of South Africa on homophobic hate crimes.

Get your flag now and show your true colours every day! Put it on your desk, your wall, stick in on your car or hang it from the highest balcony in your city or dorp.

So what’s the symbolism of the flag…
Here is the meaning of the bands of colours running accross.

red: life
orange: healing
yellow: sunlight
green: nature
indigo/blue: serenity/harmony
violet: spirit
The white V or Y shape can be interpreted as “the convergence of diverse elements within South African society, taking the road ahead in unity”. (Direct quote of South African Government

The black V / upsdide down triangle – an inverted triangle is usually associated with the Gay community.

Together they also add a local and LEKKER slant to the Gay Flag and makes the design proudly South African.
